"TOAST"
Back in DC. The sun in shining, the wind is blowing, and everybody is smiling (at least until the humidity sets in).
I love this city in the spring. I never though I'd say "I love this city" period. It took a national tour and 7 months of separation to appreciate everything it has to offer.
This entry is entitled "Toast" due to an interesting event that takes place on the streets of Adams Morgan once a year. It's called "Toast" but I'd like to call it "When Law Students Go Crazy".
You know you get hungry after a night of drinking on the town...Especially someplace like Adams Morgan. So the residents of an apartment near the great strip of 18th street, that just happen to be Gtown law students, offer free toast to passers-by once a year on a warm April night. You may ask, what's the catch? There is none, my friend. Free toast, waffles, and for those of you on a Kosher diet...matza.
I was supposed to meet up with my friend, Clifton, that night...so I told him to meet me at 17th and U. He probably assumed that I had given him the address of a bar or restaurant, or some other legitimate establishment. Little did he know he would be experiencing "Toast" first hand. He was at first speechless, and then overwhelmed by a "you silly fuckin white girl" laugh attack. And then...a law student walked up to him holding a warm waffle, "Would you like a waffle?" His laughter died down as he quickly sobered up at the realization that these people weren't kidding...and this waffle was free.
Eric, Kofi, and the "Toast" table
A law student soliciting hungry people on the street. Yes, that sign was made with glitter.
We have a live one!
Clifton making his toast.
Yummy!!!!
Awww...Kofi is cute. And so is Eric!
Me and Clifton. Clifton is doing his "angry black man" look. That's what got him into NYU grad. Because there's a different face for every emotion...ain't that right, Clifton? :)
Well, thanks for reading everyone...and here's to a new blog!
