About a month ago I made the best purchase of my life. A 2006 Yamaha Vino. Here in DC, scooters are becoming steadily more popular. In Europe, they're everywhere (but it always takes us here in America a while to catch on to the latest trends). Those of us who own them here in the capital city are rare, but quickly increasing in numbers. The gas mileage is sick. I fill my tank about every 2 weeks, and it only takes one gallon. On a beautiful day I can choose the scooter over the metro, and by-pass the long delays, the expensive fares, and the silly tourists. And the feeling of the wind in your hair isn't such a bad thing either :). And, yes, I ALWAYS wear my helmet! Are you kidding me? DC drivers are insane!!!

We scooter riders have a secret bond. We wave at each other when we pass. We know what a good deal we're getting. And we also know that we're risking our lives with the amount of potholes we have to hit on a daily basis... Would someone PLEASE fix the DC streets??? :)
When you own a scooter, everyone wants to talk to you about it. "Wow! That's great! How much was it?" "Where'd you get that?" "What year is it?" Sometimes it's hard to get anywhere on time because everytime I park the thing, I got somebody asking me questions about it. Sometimes someone on a motorcycle will talk to me if we stop at a light together. Actually, the week after I bought my new toy was "bike week" in DC...so there were motorcycles EVERYWHERE. And since my bike is black, it kind of looks like a baby motorcycle. I got thumbs up and waves all week from the big bad biker dudes with grey beards and bandanas. It was sweeeeet.
I dream of a world where scooters are the norm and not the exception.
And Hermione is my neighbor's cat. But really, she belongs to no one. She is her own cat. She lives outside and loves on anyone who's willing to pet her for more than 5 minutes. She likes the scooter, too. Smart kittie :).
Life is good when you scoot.
xoxo
