One of the best parts about doing a show is that you get to see your friends and family that you haven't seen for a while. It's an excuse for people to reunite. I hardly get to see my parents, and there are a lot of other people who I haven't seen in a while who are making their way to the Kennedy Center to see me perform. It's a great perk.

Lamar and me enjoying some oranges at the end of a lovely Chinese meal in Chinatown last weekend. It's Thanksgiving. For me, Thanksgiving hasn't been a big deal for a while. Last year I had some french onion soup and a garden salad in a hotel in...was it Pueblo? Colorado with my castmates on tour. Just another day. Just another meal. This year, I had a show on Wed, and I have two tomorrow, so my parents came to me for T-day, food in tow. We had a lovely salmon dinner (T stands for Thanksgiving, not turkey). And of course, my dad's famous pumpkin pie with all the secret ingredients. :)
Thanks, Dad. I love your new beard!
So my mom made me promise not to put a certain picture on my blog. This wasn't it. This is a picture of her telling me not to take that picture.
And this is a picture of my mom telling me I'm a horrible daughter and how did I get so mean. My dad is just smiling and nodding. Ahhh...I love them :).Sunday, November 19, 2006

First Show...Friends are there.
Two blog entries in ONE DAY! I know, it's too good to be true. I guess that goes to show how LONG this day felt. We had our first public performance tonight, and it went really well. Lamar and Melissa came, with several other people in tow (fiances, roommates, etc). And of course, like my friends and family always are, they were sitting smack dab in the front row. That's what happens when you have awesome friends that buy their tickets the first day they go on sale. :)
Melissa, Lamar and friends took up the whole house right front row, and I recognized most of the people I saw there, but there was a guy with their group on the end of the aisle who I assumed was someone's father and had come along for the ride. Surely a middle-age man didn't buy a ticket to come to a children's show solo...Melissa and Lamar must know who this guy is, right? Well, apparently, Lamar told me that Melissa had an extra ticket because her mom couldn't come, so she sold it to a guy in the gift shop who was looking at "The Brand New Kid" book. Hmmm...interesting. From my point of view on stage, he seemed to be enjoying himself! Although, when he found out Katie Couric wasn't actually going to be at the show, he was a little disappointed, and Melissa offered to give him his money back. He said that was okay and he would come anyway. What a minute...does that mean I get to quit the show because Katie isn't coming to the reception??? Eh, I guess I'll finish out the run. I'm kind of having a good time. :)

My best friend brought me flowers.
Katie sent her regards for the opening night show and reception, but that's not all she sent! A plate of delectible cookies showed up right as we were finishing a show followed by three hours of rehearsal. It came at exactly the right time :).These were some gooooood "I anchor the CBS evening news and can afford to buy really expensive cookies" cookies.
Also, check out playbill.com for some more pictures from the show. Unfortunately, I didn't make it into any of them (I was cropped out of

Playbill article.
Tonight we have our first public performance, but we've had two all-kid audiences already...and they've gone great!
Hope life is good for all of you... Pictures from the reception after opening night will be coming soon!

Another mention of "The Brand New Kid" online. This time...the Washington Post! They decided to feature a front page article about children's theatre in the Weekend Section. The journalist came to watch one of our rehearsals and interview one of the actors in our show. Unbeknowst to me, the author of the article also read our bios , and decided she could relate part of mine to her article.
See it at the link below! Scroll down to the end of the first section of the article to see my little name.

AGAIN, these people spelled my name right! Guess that's what happens when you're slowly but surely starting to become world famous. Why are you laughing? :)

I don't have a new camera yet (and, yes, I feel incredibly lost without it). However, I thought y'all might get a kick out of my name being on playbill.com. Check out the link below:
